As we continue to refine the Cardinal+ Verification System, our team is constantly looking for ways to strengthen the trust between rescuers and donors. To ensure that our community remains the gold standard for transparency and scam prevention on Reddit, we are announcing an important update regarding how funds are collected for verified fundraisers.
Effective immediately, r/AnimalRescue via Cardinal+ will no longer support the use of direct peer-to-peer payment apps for individual fundraisers. This includes:
Moving forward, all verified fundraisers must utilize platforms that feature a public-facing donation tracker (such as GoFundMe or Spotfund) or provide a way for donors to pay a veterinary clinic’s business account directly.
We know that apps like Venmo and CashApp are fast and easy to use. However, the Cardinal+ system is built on the principle of trust, and after reviewing our community safety data, the administration team identified four key reasons for this transition:
