Welcome to the official community guidelines for r/AnimalRescue. Whether you are a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, shelter volunteer, pet owner, or community member seeking emergency assistance for an animal in need, our goal is to maintain a safe, constructive, and actionable environment for animal welfare.
Our Community’s Purpose
Our community platforms—spanning our Reddit subreddit and official Discord server—are built around three goals:
- To Provide Rapid Support & Guidance: Providing clear, accurate, and safe advice for emergency containment, wildlife transport, and animal care.
- To Provide Responsible Welfare & Advocacy: Upholding high ethical standards, local and federal wildlife laws, and evidence-based rehabilitation practices.
- To Ensure Verified Fundraising Integrity: Protecting our community from fraud by maintaining a strict, transparent verification process for all donation and financial aid requests.

Jurisdiction & Scope
r/AnimalRescue Community Rules & Guidelines generally shall be limited to content and behavioral conduct that occurs within our community. Our moderation team oversees content and behavior within our official Reddit and Discord spaces. Here is how our coverage works:
- In-Community Conduct: All posts, comments, media, text channels, and voice chats within r/AnimalRescue are subject to our community guidelines.
- Cross-Platform & Off-Site Behavior: While we generally do not monitor what happens outside our community, moderators reserve the right to take action (including post removal, user bans, or filtering references to other subreddits/platforms) if off-site conduct poses a serious risk to our space or safety. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Advocating for or depicting violence against animals or humans.
- Harassing community members or staff off-platform regarding r/AnimalRescue matters.
- Intentionally spreading dangerous misinformation that could lead to harm or death for an animal or person.
- Misrepresenting or using the r/AnimalRescue name, brand, or assets without permission.
Definitions
To make sure everyone is on the same page, here are a few common terms used in our rules and moderation notes:
- Member / User: Anyone actively posting, commenting, or participating in our Reddit or Discord spaces.
- Moderator / Staff: Volunteer /r/AnimalRescue community members responsible for maintaining safety, enforcing guidelines, managing verification programs, and keeping the community running smoothly.
- Community Platforms: Refers specifically to the official r/AnimalRescue subreddit and the linked r/AnimalRescue Discord server.
- Direct Threat: Any statement or post that a reasonable person would interpret as a serious expression of intent to cause physical harm, abuse, or violence toward animals or people.
- Misinformation: Unverified, false, or misleading advice—especially regarding medical care, illegal wildlife handling, or dangerous training techniques—that puts animals or rescuers at risk.
Enforcement Notes
For some of our Community Guidelines below, you will see an “Enforcement Notes and Clarifications” section. Enforcement Notes are additional examples of what is and isn’t allowed on /r/AnimalRescue, focused on clarifying existing policies already being enforced. Enforcement Notes are not new policies or new rules. We write these notes to share more information about our existing Community Guidelines and to answer commonly asked questions

Reddit's Terms of Use / Content Policy
To keep this lovely community a safe and informative place for all, we require all users to follow the Reddit content policy and terms of service at all times. Some of our other subreddit rules overlap with the site-wide rules, but such rules provide more information specific to r/AnimalRescue to help you understand what kind of content is allowed.
Reddit's Basic Rules Include:
- Remember the human. When you communicate online, all you see is a computer screen. When talking to someone, you might want to ask yourself, "Would I say it to the person's face?" or "Would I get jumped if I said this to a buddy?"
- Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life.
- Read the rules of a community before submitting. These are usually found in the sidebar.

Discord Terms of Service & Community Guidelines
To maintain a safe, welcoming, and organized environment across our server, all members are required to comply with Discord’s Terms of Service and Discord’s Community Guidelines at all times.
While our internal server rules outline specific standards for animal welfare, fundraising, and advice, Discord's platform policies serve as the baseline for all user conduct on our server.
Discord's Community Guidelines Include:
- Treat Everyone with Respect: Do not engage in harassment, hate speech, bullying, or intimidation against any individual or group.
- No Harmful or Illegal Content: Explicitly prohibits sharing material that depicts graphic violence, animal abuse, illegal activities, or non-consensual sexual content.
- Respect Platform Security: Do not attempt to compromise account security, distribute malware, spam text or voice channels, or raid server operations.
- Account Integrity: Impersonating staff members, individuals, or organizations is strictly prohibited and subject to immediate removal from the server.
